Dragon Lines Then Re-Created In Chinese Ink Brush For Body Art | Filmed In Joey Pang's Private Workshop This Composition Was Designed For A Client / As Body Art | www.JoeyPang.com | www.TattooTemple.hk

"A very short time-lapse feature of Joey Pang drafting then setting the lines of an upper-torso dragon tattoo composition. This artwork was recreated again following this drawing, using Chinese calligraphy brushes for the final piece. Even with both canvases on-hand still some areas needed to be freehand drawn on the client to ensure the most tailored alignment. Although the watercolor aesthetic is highly fluid with the gradations and ink fractures forming shapes as opposed to 'hard' lines, in order to convey elements such as the dragon these pieces still have to capture certain levels of sharp or contrasting details throughout. This is particularly pertinent to the face, claws, tail as well as scales so that the dragon's defining features and not 'lost' in the brush movement. The sharpness of the focal points further allows for smoother abstraction across the body. This layered approach to contrasting is a marked departure from traditional techniques in either school yet Joey Pang juxtaposes the two so as to form dynamic levels as well as accounting for the artwork's healed appearance on skin. A pleasure working with you on this Jonathan and we hope to see you here in Hong Kong soon"
